History of the HSO



The HSO was officially recognized by New York Telephone as an employee resource group (ERG) in 1988. The organization was founded and begun by Carmen Rivera and a group of telephone company employees who were proud to be part of the expanding Hispanic employee base and U.S. population.

The HSO has pledged to support Verizon in making it a leader in the communications industry and making a significant contribution to its diversity mix.

The HSO is a recognized 501 c3 and Verizon employee resource group with a three-pronged goal of advancing our company, developing and advancing Hispanic employees, improving the communities we live in.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Hispanic Support Organization to:

  • Pave the path of opportunities for professional development of our membership in order to increase productivity and efficiency
  • Educate and empower our membership in order to strengthen our internal culture by raising awareness on issues affecting the Hispanic community and providing them with the best possible customer experience
  • Connect with the Hispanic markets that we serve in order to strengthen our brand by promoting its value, taking share from our competition and growing revenue
  • Encourage positive change and a strengthen our culture by establishing strong partnerships amongst employee resource groups and Verizon
  • The overall success of Verizon and the support of the companies key imperatives.
